It's about time that these questions were asked of these fruitcakes! They should be drawn & quartered for leading gullible people astray. How fortunate for me that I found your blog because I have been ranting about this for years to some members of my family. Thank you for putting the information all in one place!

Holy Cow! What an awesome blog that lays everything out so clearly. We have been looking for something like this that is clear and easy to read so that we can send it to our friends who have recently gotten involved in one of these churches. Keep up the good words!

Great questions. I have followed your blog with some interest but the tongues have really made me realize how easy it is to be misled into something wrong.

Unbelievable how so many people get led astray by pastors and people in these tongue-speaking churches. It is really sad that by the time they realize the issue, they are too far down the road and it's extremely difficult to get back! But it can be done, with great effort and concentration, to get away from the emotional highs that this phenomenon gives you.

It is really about time that this information is available in one place. I have sent your link to all of my family and friends who are still involved in one of these churches. I am on the road to recovery after spending years in one of these churches. I am so grateful that my parents sent me your blog link even though I couldn't believe it at first. And then it was like a bolt of lightning. Thank you.

Having been involved with one of these charismatic churches for a number of years (without ever getting the gift of tongues), I now understand that what has been going on in my church is deceptive and wrong. All of these people who "interpret the heavenly voices" are liars because no two people say exactly the same thing so somebody has to be wrong. I cannot believe that I found your blog through www.stumbleupon.com when I was looking up one of the pastors that you have listed on your page. It has taken me three days to read your entire blog and I am now convinced that my family and I have to get out!

It is certainly time that this information was put in one place. It has made my research easier as I too have children involved in the Barrie Victory Centre as well as the Newmarket branch office. (Make no mistake -- it is a business and not a religious organization) It's appalling at how quickly my family got suckered in by that blamphemous pastor and his wife. What they are teaching is abhorrent to any true Christian. I am trying to have their religious designation for tax purposes revoked but as yet, no luck. Keep writing and keep us informed. Thank you. I cannot publish my name because I don't want any more damage done to my home or vehicles.

I think that you and these people are all crack-pots! You have no idea about what true gifts of God really are. You and these nuts are missing out on so many blessings. I am asking you nicely to remove these lies from the web. My next request won't be so pleasantly worded!

Thank you! We have family members thoroughly convinced that tongues is a spiritual requirement from God for salvation. What hogwash and your research clearly shows that this is not true. Our family is involved in a small home-style church in Owen Sound that is an off-shoot of the Victory Centre there. We are having great difficulty in understanding how our family could have been drawn into this when we were raised in a bible-believing church. At least you have the ability to get the word out.

We just want to say "Thank You". We have been printing out your blog ever since we found it last year. We have mailed it to our children every time that you put out a new one. Praise the Lord -- they have finally seen the light and have left one of these charismatic churches. We are just praying that they will be able to stay free of this bondage as the church members are harassing them to come back.

I'll answer these in random order:

Q15 - Example of a woman speaking in tongues.

Acts 2:4 says that they were ALL filled with the Holy Ghost, and spoke with tongues. Who was in the upper room? Acts 1:13-14 - "They went into an upper room, where abode Peter, and James and John ... These all continued with one accord in prayer ... with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus." If they ALL spoke in tongues, that would include the women.

Q11 - Were you strongly refusing anything that Satan might send you?

Did they do that on the day of Pentecost? We already have Jesus promise that when we ask for the Holy Spirit, we won't get a serpent or a scorpion. Do you really believe that Satan is more powerful than Jesus, and can "slip in" a demon, while Jesus is trying to give us the Holy Ghost?

Q12 - Does your tongue ever get out of control?

I don't know of anyone who ever experienced this. So ... no.

Q4,7,8 - This is something you're not seeing. There's a difference between the personal prayer language that we receive with the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, and the SPIRITUAL GIFT of tongues, which occurs as the Spirit wills.

The prayer language is you speaking TO GOD. (1 Cor. 14:2) Why would we need to interpret that? When we speak to God, He doesn't need an interpreter.

The GIFT of tongues is GOD speaking THROUGH AN INDIVIDUAL TO THE CONGREGATION. Of course, that needs to be interpreted. The people don't know the language.

(We need to rightly divide the Word of truth.)

Q3 - Do you use your tongue as a warning to Jews to repent?

On the day of Pentecost, they didn't use tongues to preach. They spoke in other tongues "the wonderful works of God". (Acts 2:11)

Q5 - Do you speak in tongues to edify yourself, or to edify the church?

Again, there are two kinds of tongues. With the prayer language, yes. "He that speaks in an unknown tongue EDIFIETH HIMSELF" (1 Cor. 14:4). When it's a "Message" from God to the congregation, you edify the church. That's why sometimes it needs to be interpreted. When someone else is with you, and the message is aimed at them, the goal is their edification.

Q6 - About women keeping silence in the church ... Paul just got through saying (in Chapter 11), that they could "pray" and "prophesy". (11:5). The context of "silence" is "if they will LEARN anything, let them ASK THEIR HUSBANDS at home". The context is learning and asking. Not speaking in tongues. (If they can pray and prophesy, they can also speak in tongues.)

I sincerely challenge you to post this, and answer THESE questions.

One more comment, this time, in response to Q9. I'll answer you by asking YOU a question: "How do you know what Spirit you got when you got born again? Can you prove it's REALLY the Spirit of God?"

Of course, you know the answer. You know it's really the Holy Spirit because of the fruit He produces in your life. He gives you a love for the Word, and for Christ, and for His church, and changes you for the better.

Now, back to your original question. You're asking me to prove that it's the Holy Spirit.

I think it's wise that you ask. It seems to me that only someone who has received "tongues" would know if it's the same Spirit or not. How can someone on the outside, POSSIBLY have an opinion. As someone who has experienced both, I know it's the same Spirit that came into my life when I was born again.
